A short story about Prague:

Prague, the Golden City on the Vltava River, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. As such, the entire historic center was placed on their World Heritage List by UNESCO. One of the oldest and largest cities in Central Europe with a unique and diverse architectural offer, one of its nicknames is “the city of a hundred towers. A gross understatement, as Prague has no less than 550 of them!

Until 1992, Prague was the capital of Czechoslovakia, then of the republic of the Czech Republic. Because few sights were destroyed during WWII you will find many buildings in very diverse architectural styles. Notable buildings were constructed in Baroque, Gothic, Art Nouveau and Brutalist styles. In the historic center you will find, among other things, the astronomical clock on Old Town Square and the famous Charles Bridge that connects the Old Town with the Malá Strana district.

On both sides of the center is a historic fortress. On the northwest side is the largest fortress in the world: the “Prague Castle. On the south side is the Vysehrad Fortress, with within its walls the burial place of many famous Czechs. Also be sure to visit the National Museum, the most important museum in the Czech Republic.

But you can also find some examples of more recent architecture in Prague, such as the brutalist Zizkov Television Tower. Since 2000, the tower’s three poles have been decorated with crawling babies by Czech sculptor David Cerny.

In addition to its many towers, Prague also has a lot of unusual-style eateries. For example, you can dine at Café Imperial in an Art Nouveau setting. A lover of fish dishes can go to Hergetova Cihelna. A stylish restaurant with a view of Charles Bridge.

Delight those centuries of history with static buildings, typical dishes and artful streets.
